Theology is the … Theology is the science of fairy tales. Its a great story, but if you look at it from a critical standpoint, it doesn’t make sense that God could lay down his own rights, or that he would have to make a blood sacrifice to forgive sins.
To me, Jesus is just a clever way to convince people that stoning isn’t necessary, as well as pointing out some other flaws with the religion of that time. But they had to call Christ the Lord, because otherwise, he’s just a blasphemer.
Don’t get me wrong. … Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think religion is the answer for knowing God. All religions have some good points and all have some bad points. The thing that is significant about Jesus is that he claimed to be the son of God, and yet he laid down his rights as God and humbled himself so that we could know his love for us. And that while we are living our lives for ourselves and do not put God first, he came to repair our relationship with him, by dying for us as the payment for our disobedince.
Maybe Zeus … Maybe Zeus antrhopomorphised us. Do you really thing God has a physical body, and looks like a human? If anything, God created us in his spiritual image.
If what your saying is that there is only one true religion, or all religions are false, I don’t agree with that. All religions could be different paths to the same truth.
But for the sake of argument, I don’t really mind if all religions are false. I guess that would mean the one truth is that everything dies. So what’s wrong with that?
Maybe God has … Maybe God has anthropomorphised us. Did you ever think about that? God created us in His image. Philnoll, there is one Truth, otherwise everything is false, so I encourage you to find it! God does not change or falter. He is who He is.
I like the idea of … I like the idea of national or global salvation, rather than personal salvation. But I don’t understand what Jews DO about a broken relationship with God.
The argument from Judaism about anthropomorphising God is a good one. The argument from Christianity that God became a man as a sacrifice is clearly just cow dung theology aimed at making God more accessible, but so is Judaism. Personally, I think Christianity is an evolutionary step, and there are others to come.
If your mother was … If your mother was Jewish and not a Chabad or other type of non Jew then you’re Jewish. You may not be counted in a minyan tho if your mother wasn’t raised Jewish.
remember the brocha:
ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו מלך העולם שלא עשני ליובאוויטשער
I was more or less … I was more or less talking about the rigid prayer life/pilgrimage that Muslims center their faith around. I didn’t mean to imply that Christian standards should apply to Islam – for I do not know what the Islamic teachings are on material items.
You’re making a … You’re making a judgment on me, that you can’t possibly know. There’s no way that I can prove your statement incorrect. I thought that you atheists were all about “logic,” and “evidence.” Perhaps when it doesn’t apply to yourself..?
I can say that Jews that declared themselves a race, are religiously ignorant Jews. Hitler declared us a race that was attempting to assimilate itself into German culture to take it over. It’s been used so many times, that no religious Jew would ever say it.
This is what I mean … This is what I mean. There is no concept of being “half Jewish.” You’re either Jewish or not Jewish. Jewish people don’t consider themselves a race, because all races can and throughout history have, became Jews. Yes, according to orthodox perspective you can reject G-d, and still be considered Jewish. Being born Jewish is considered a gift from G-d (while noting that all life are gifts from G-d), that can’t be discarded. But that is the Orthodox perspective, which represents 10% of Jews.
nugzin2040, as … nugzin2040, as someone who is half jewish on my father’s side, I don’t share you confidence. Most jews today consider themselves jewish a a race, not a religion, most of them consider themselves atheists by religion.
nugzin2040, I am … nugzin2040, I am not talking in general terms. I am talking about the way it is presented in this video. In this video the it is presented that jews look at the bible as mostly fairytale, which is good, but leaves them without a basis to point to for their religion.
I think Judaism has … I think Judaism has a strong foundation. Just Jewish people disagree sometimes on their approach to it. Just as Christians and other religions do.
A reason why many … A reason why many people respect Islam…Muslims are very true to their faith, whereas many Christians, at least here in America, indulge far too much in the material culture…we have stopped looking for God because we think we have found him, when you are exactly right: you need to work towards finding God…If more people did this, the world would be a far better place.
nice video, and … nice video, and nice comment replies!!
I wonder if there’ll be a similar video comparing islamic and judaic theology. My teacher taught me that and its very interesting.
I disagree with the guy in the video. having “faith” in a christian sense does not make you somehow spiritually aware of God, you need to work on your personal relationship with God to get to that state. We muslims strive to put God in every act by saying “in the Name of God” dragging all temporal acts to The Infinite.
There are a lot of … There are a lot of rules in the Torah, over all types of things. But there is never any verse declaring that to have a relationship with G-d one, must accept the blood sacrifice of another being (human or animal). It is entirely pagan.
I’m not sure if I’m willing to trust a book that is titled after one of the more brutal civilizations in the history of the world, either. More then anything, that shows the concessions that Christianity were willing to make to gain converts…
Death as in the end … Death as in the end of innocence. Once we are taught right from wrong, and aren’t in the physical presence of G-d we are exposed to the evils of the world and to our own fleeting mortality.
Sacrifices in certain situations seemed to be a means to gain forgiveness. But again, they weren’t the only way, and it’s implied they are not the best.

Even this is not the end, but rather the means to have a relationship with God. Read Romans for more on this subject.
