In our lifelong study of God should we more adequately address the fear of God as much as we do the love?

God is love, and it is because He first loved us that He sent His only Son to die for us. This should invoke a profound gratitude for what God has done for us.
Regardless of what God has done, however, He is still worthy of our praise simply for who He is. This reverence is sometimes lost in many believers, I think.
Psalm 11:10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…" The fear of God is echoed in many scriptural passages. With the predominant message from most pulpits emphasizing the love of God, at least as I have heard, I think we [believers] miss out on understanding, and respecting this healthy fear of God. Perhaps our understanding of who God is gets somewhat contorted. From my experience, developing this respectful fear of God helps me revere the Lord, regardless of what He has done or will do. What do you think?
There is gratitude we should have toward God for what He has done for us.
There is also reverence for God that we also ought to have that is not dependent on God’s actions. God is worthy of praise for who He is.
I did not mean that in any way to sound like I was attacking God…sorry for the confusion Debi_K.

I think you are on to something improtant.
Have you done a Scriptural word study of the word ‘fear’?

Anybody here study Hermeneutics?

Has it changed the way you approach things?

I am sure somebody will ask me what it is so here is the deffinition: The theory and methodology of interpretation, especially of scriptural text.
Philosophy students use that term too.

As much as I would like to I dabbled in it and then went on to do what I normally do. I still have trouble defining hermenutics as different from exegesis. lol

And then sometimes I think that I do it anyway. I suppose that I am just a layman worker for Christ. I try to put the principles which are found in the Bible in layman terms, so that anyone can understand. I find that the problem typically is; they don’t often want to understand.

Why did the Roman Church elevate Aristotle to a level of authority almost near that of the Bible?

Yes, I realize that many of the same monks who copied and preserved the Biblical manuscripts also copied and preserved (and studied) the documents of the ancient world. But what was it about Aristotle that led the Church to respect his teachings almost to the point of scriptural inerrancy? (And why Aristotle more so than Plato or various other ancient philosophers?)

I suspect its because that a lot of monks were attracted to Aristotelian natural philosophy. Plato has always been boring. You might say as boredom goes, Plato is a platonic ideal.

Who sinned that this man was born blind? – A biblical study of John 9:1-3

[ See all our videos at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=TruthOrTradition&view=videos ] Does blindness sound like God’s works? Was this man oppressed by God? May it never be! Seeing John 9:3 as a command clause exonerates God from the charge of blinding a child for his glory. Joshua Anderson of Spirit & Truth Fellowship International ( http://www.stfonline.org ) carefully explains John 9:1-3 to show that God did not make the man blind.
