The word minister is etymologically rooted in a Latin word meaning "to serve," "to be a servant," or "to be near at hand to offer assistance."

The usage of pastor comes from its use in the Bible. In the Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament), the Hebrew word רעה (raʿah) is used. The word is used 173 times and can describe the feeding of sheep as in Genesis 29:7 or the spiritual feeding of human beings as in Jeremiah 3:15.

The word monastery comes from the Greek μοναστήριον "monasterion", from the root "monos" = alone (originally all Christian monks were hermits), and the suffix "-terion" = place for doing something.

These words have Latin, Hebrew, and Greek derivatives. I don’t see how these point to Christians studying Astrothrology.

Some interesting observations, but this is a somewhat spurious and half finished piece of research.

I respectfully suggest that you go back and study both religions in greater detail to discover the multiple differences, not least of which is that Judaism and Christianity are monotheistic whereas ancient Egyptian religion was polytheistic.

The questions are drawn from a catechism. There are 24 total questions within this paper that I will answer. On executive decision, I chose to post each of these on Answers! but…. I am going to do them about once each day. They will be titled "Soteriology – Q # ______ . " I am going to poast them, one each day, because I am hoping to get as many different people to answer these questions as possible. If you would like to answer all 24, search them through my name, and answer as many as you would like to. PLEASE back up your answers with Scriptural references, theologian quotes, your opinions, etc. I want you to be as creative as possible, and I want as many people to participate as possible. Thank you for your participation! I do not want you to do my research. I want more opinions than just people I can find on my own. In a sense, think of it more as an interview.

I took a soteriology class in college. In the old testament, people brought their sacrafices to the priest, and the PRIEST offered the sacrafices for the people. The priest was the one that was able to ask for the Lords forgiveness. He was a mediator for the people. The people did not go directly to God. Now that Christ has died for our sins, He is our High Priest. Instead of offering sacrafices, we now go to Him and pray to Him and He lets our requests be made know unto the father. Leviticus is a good book to read in the old testament, it is full of the recquironments and the duties of a priest.. In the new testament I would read Acts, this will show how Jesus now fulfills this role. Good luck with your paper!

As a Christian what scriptural basis gives you the right to set rules ?
As a Christian how do you handle it if they have legal rights that contradict the bible ?

That study must have been done in Australia. In the US I doubt that 10% of teenagers are disciplined by their parents and most don’t have house rules.

As parents we have an obligation to care for and train our children. Many scriptures in Proverbs and other scriptures concern the discipline, or training, of children. Rules are needed in all parts of our lives. As adults we obey laws, follow the rules of our employer and follow certain rules (medicine and care) given by our doctors.

Discipline isn’t cruelty, since most laws (where I live, anyway) concerning parenting have to do with abuse or lack of care. But until teens are at least 18, it’s "you live here, you live by the rules" and if they are over 18 cay be told to leave the house. One brother I know had a son so incorrigible and constantly in trouble with the law, he took his son to the police and told them either they locked him up or he would have to himself. They put the son in a public mental facility in lockdown. He turned out to be a responsible adult.

There are many forms of discipline that aren’t physical, so a Christian parent would have to show some ingenuity and perhaps help from the elders with a truly unruly child if there were laws against hitting a child. Personally, I feel that should be a last resort at any time.

She believes these things about herself but she doesn’t believe she can attract some one of the same caliber. If I can quote her a bible verse I think it would have a better impact. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Galatians 5:22-23 attributes: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance".

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight". (1 Peter 3:3-4)

Maybe something from Proverbs 31:10-31 like:
* 10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
* 11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
* 12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

* 17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

* 20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
* 22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

* 25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
* 26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
* 27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
* 28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
* 29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
* 30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
* 31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Philippians 4:5 "Let your gentleness be evident to all".

"A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones". (Proverbs 15:30)

"A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches. (Proverbs 11:16)

"In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything". (1 Timothy 3:11)

Does fasting make prayer more effective?

Although the connection between prayer and fasting is not specifically explained in Scripture, a common thread connecting the two seems to run through all the instances of prayer and fasting that are recorded in the Bible. In the Old Testament, it appears that fasting with prayer had to do with a sense of need and dependence, and/or of abject helplessness in the face of actual or anticipated calamity. Prayer and fasting are combined in the Old Testament in times of mourning, repentance, and/or deep spiritual need.

The first chapter of Nehemiah describes Nehemiah praying and fasting, because of his deep distress over the news that Jerusalem had been desolated. His many days of prayer were characterized by tears, fasting, confession on behalf of his people, and pleas to God for mercy. So intense was the outpouring of his concerns that it’s almost inconceivable he could “take a break” in the middle of such prayer to eat and drink. The devastation that befell Jerusalem also prompted Daniel to adopt a similar posture: “So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes” (Daniel 9:3). Like Nehemiah, Daniel fasted and prayed that God would have mercy upon the people, saying, “We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws” (v. 5).

In several instances in the Old Testament, fasting is linked with intercessory prayer. David prayed and fasted over his sick child (2 Samuel 12:16), weeping before the Lord in earnest intercession (vv. 21-22). Esther urged Mordecai and the Jews to fast for her as she planned to appear before her husband the king (Esther 4:16). Clearly, fasting and petition are closely linked.

There are instances of prayer and fasting in the New Testament, but they are not connected with repentance or confession. The prophetess Anna “never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying” (Luke 2:37). At age 84, her prayer and fasting were part of her service to the Lord in His temple as she awaited the promised Savior of Israel. Also in the New Testament, the church at Antioch was fasting in connection with their worship when the Holy Spirit spoke to them about commissioning Saul and Barnabas to the Lord’s work. At that point, they prayed and fasted, placed their hands on the two men and sent them off. So, we see these examples of prayer and fasting as components of worshipping the Lord and seeking His favor. Nowhere, however, is there any indication that the Lord is more likely to answer prayers if they are accompanied by fasting. Rather, fasting along with prayer seems to indicate the sincerity of the people praying and the critical nature of the situations in which they find themselves.

One thing is clear: the theology of fasting is a theology of priorities in which believers are given the opportunity to express themselves in an undivided and intensive devotion to the Lord and to the concerns of spiritual life. This devotion will be expressed by abstaining for a short while from such normal and good things as food and drink, so as to enjoy a time of uninterrupted communion with our Father. Our “confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus” (Hebrews 10:19), whether fasting or not fasting, is one of the most delightful parts of that “better thing” which is ours in Christ. Prayer and fasting should not be a burden or a duty, but rather a celebration of God’s goodness and mercy to His children.
