How should i go about teaching religion to my children?
First of all i want to say that i am not planning on having children and this question is purely out of pure interest.
I am an atheist and i want to know if people have any advice about teaching religion to their children. I would want them to chose a religion on their own free will, but i do not think that shielding them from all organized religion is the best approach. I would probably have them go to Sunday school in as children so they have some background in it. Any advice will be ver appreciated.
don’t, religion is for idiots.
Letting children choose their own religion may seem to be a logical choice, but children rarely know how to choose anything of vital importance. It’s probably best to raise them in a mildly religious atmosphere. Taking them to Sunday School is a good idea. There are many religions, so as they grow up, they will most likely find one adaptable to them. As long as you remain open to their decisions it should be fine. But of course, we are talking theoretically.

Well, it is likely that they will be invited to Sunday School or Church Groups with friends at some point, and I would let them go. When they are old enough to understand abstract concepts such as religion, then I would encourage them to tune in and pay attention to different programs about religion on television.
You could also pay them to write reports on religous topics. Have them read summaries on Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity and have them write five things that are similar, and five things that are different, pay them $1 for each solid common or differing trait.
The constructivist theory of education, which is preferred whenever and wherever possible, holds that children learn more through their own research and learning than through our teaching. If you faciliate the means and the motivation to study religion, they will at the right time. When and if they feel they need religion in their life, they will have the right tools at their disposal to make the best decision for them.
They will also learn great cultural and critical thinking skills in the process of these simple research projects you assign.

Kids will ask questions. You can answer them as far as you know, but say "some people believe …." "and other people believe …."

Don’t! let them just ask the questions as they grow.
