What are the benefits and basic elements of taize prayer?
I am working on a project in class on taize prayer and would like to know the benefits (How does it improver our prayer life and how do we get the most out of it? When is it best used?) and basic elements (What makes this prayer type work?) of taize.

Taize is a little town in France with a Cistercian monastery. After WW II, Brother Robert and his monks wanted to heal the Christian-Catholic-Jewish schisms by chanting Latin updates of Gregorian chants in semi-darkness. Everybody was invited to participate in both singing and instrumental accompaniment. The simplicity of this anonymous, democratic, inclusive form of prayer attracted thousands of backpack-toting young travelers from all over the world. In the Taize chapel, people sit in groups on the floor and chant Taize arrangements in Latin in the glow of candlelight. Search TAIZE on Youtube–there are some beautiful arrangements, both live and recorded. Taize can be found in almost every large metropolis in the world–I attended Taize for years with my violin. Instruments and improvisation are warmly welcomed. I especially enjoy the arrangements that counterpoint a repetitive chant against a vocal or instrumental soloist. This is an ecumenical Christian movement that wants to unite all people with a peaceful and soothing form of prayer–the Gregorian chant.
