Soteriology – Q 3 – What offices does Christ execute as the Redeemer?
I have a paper due, over what I believe about Soteriology, or the study of salvation. The questions are drawn from a catechism. There are 24 total questions within this paper that I will answer. On executive decision, I chose to post each of these on Answers! but…. I am going to do them about once each day. They will be titled "Soteriology – Q # ______ . " I am going to poast them, one each day, because I am hoping to get as many different people to answer these questions as possible. If you would like to answer all 24, search them through my name, and answer as many as you would like to. PLEASE back up your answers with Scriptural references, theologian quotes, your opinions, etc. I want you to be as creative as possible, and I want as many people to participate as possible. Thank you for your participation! I do not want you to do my research. I want more opinions than just people I can find on my own. In a sense, think of it more as an interview.
Christ is my personal redeemer because he suffered for my sins in Gethsemane. He undrestands everything that I have ever been through. If I accept him as my personal savior and reedemer then he will be my represntative to my Heavenly Father at the judgement ber.

Can you show infant baptism to be wrong?
I would like to invite you to visit my website at the link given below in order to obtain a paper on the matter of baptism. This paper compares believer’s baptism to infant baptism. I personally believe that the infant baptism is the Scriptural practice. I would love to have you take a look at this paper and share your thoughts on it with me. The paper can be found at:

Do Christians realize grace enables us to fulfill the Law, as opposed to freeing us from it?
Hence, Jesus & the Apostles all kept kosher, observed the Scriptural Sabbath & studied Torah.
Didn’t Jesus then teach Christians to do as He did? So, why do Christians do none of what He taught?
Slinkyfairy, the people of Israel are the Scapegoat of the world. We Have been & continue to be sacrificed.
Laff, technically; yes, He did. They call it being born again.
Reese, since you claim baptism is being born again, then the theif who was not baptised yet Jesus said he’d be in Paradise with Him; how do you explain his access to Heaven?
Bob T; go study Peters’ vision in context. 1) Nowhere does Peter claim to have eaten pork. 2) The vision had to do with unclean Gentiles (such as yourself) being given the faith of the Jews.
I don’t know Sawyer! You would think they should want to do what Jesus did! I have a feeling Christianity looks so much different than it did in the days of Christ and the Apostles! The Law is an important part of who God’s people were and continue to be. Because it set a standard that we all should strive to keep. There SHOULD be a standard of pure and undefiled worship that we are not seeing in Christianity today! Wonderful question! May the Lord bless you!

Anglican Episcopal and ELCA Lutherans; how can we acommodate you better in our Confessional Lutheran Churches?
What are we doing wrong? Ever since the Anglican Communion, and the ELCA (Methodists too) started defying Scripture with female ordination, liberal views on Scriptural interperetation, homosexuality, and secular humanism, most of those whom I know have been complaining. Our doctrine seems to be what you want, yet when invited to Church and/or Bible Study, there is no interest.
What more should we be doing?
Mark
… Please read my notes. I am not talking about those who are happy, but those who are not.
Also, we can not change Scripture, or the doctrine that comes from Scripture.
How can we help?

If you want to get technical, we are Catholic. The Chruch of Rome left the "Catholic" fold when they walked away from the Church at the time of the Reformation. We did not leave Rome. Read the Lutheran Confessions, called The Book of Concord. Concord, in this case means unity of doctrine. We did not split the Church, Rome did. Yes, there it is.
That is what I saw and read.

fixerken,
I couldn’t agree with you more!

The name Kingdom Hall was suggested in 1935 by J. F. Rutherford, who was then president of the Watch Tower Society. In connection with the Society’s branch facilities in Honolulu, Hawaii, he arranged for the brothers to construct a hall where meetings could be held. When James Harrub asked what Brother Rutherford was going to call the building, he replied: “Don’t you think we should call it ‘Kingdom Hall,’ since that is what we are doing, preaching the good news of the Kingdom?” Thereafter, where possible, halls regularly being used by the Witnesses gradually began to be identified by signs that said “Kingdom Hall.” Thus, when the London Tabernacle was renovated in 1937-38, it was renamed Kingdom Hall. In time, the principal local meeting place of congregations worldwide came to be known as the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Methodists what does this mean Scriptural reflection is influenced by process of reason, tradition, experience?
Someone told me this is what Methodists teach, and if it is true, can you explain to me how this works when studying the Bible?
There are religious denominations out there who place great emphasis on ‘reasoning’ (the human, fallible variety), and others who place great emphasis on ‘tradition’. Then we have the ‘experience’ brigade who go more by feelings and experience than they do by theology. Personally, I thought that it was the Holy Spirit who revealed truth.
To what extent to Methodists rely on reason, tradition and experience and is there any basis in Scripture to support this approach?
The background to the rise of Methodism might have a bearing on this. There was dreadful spiritual lethargy amongst the populace in general in Britain in the 18th century before revival came. George Whitefield was one outstanding preacher at that time (born in Gloucester in 1714). He had been associated with the Wesleys and others in the ‘Holy Club’ and was converted in 1735. He developed a Calvinistic form of Methodism, which clashed sharply with the Wesleys’ Arminianism. That may be where the emphasis on reasoning came in. John Wesley was converted dynamically via a Moravian leader – they demonstrated a deep spirituality. It was the Moravians who had the love feast, the watch night and the class-meetings – all taken up by the Methodist societies.
Anglicans of the eighteenth century had a deep fear of extremes (both of Roman Catholic and Puritan types) and England was clearly irreligious. From about 1735 till 1742, the Revival took effect. It was during a love feast in London (1 January 1739) that the leaders of the Revival were welded into a wonderful fellowship of the Spirit. John Wesley wrote, "About 3 in the morning, as we were continuing instant in prayer, the power of God came mightily upon us…" It was a sort of Pentecost on New Year’s Day. So there is the origin of the experience element.
Perhaps the emphasis on tradition stems from the movement that arose within the Church of England. It gave rise to what is now known as Anglican Evangelicalism. They sought to work within the existing framework of the Anglican Church. James Hervey wrote books to attempt to bring the evangelical message to ‘polite society’. Anglican Evangelicals witnessed particularly effectively at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Wesley had no desire to leave the Church of England, assuming that Methodists would attend Anglican services and sacraments. The established church was respected, along with its traditions. But nobody had to conform to it to be in the Methodist society. There was openness from the start. Although I’m not a Methodist, these gleanings from literature on them might point you in the right direction.

Most of those whom you know seem to be very anal, uncompassionate and unforgiving.
That’s not the Lutheran church I know – or for that matter did Martin.
What more should you do – grow up and walk away from these bigoted hypocrites.

Why do people think Jesus is the Messiah although he has not fulfilled most of the scriptural requirements?
So far, Jesus only seems to fit these vague criteria:
He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via Solomon (1 Chronicles 22:8-10, 2 Chronicles 7:18)
The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2)
He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7)
All of these hese are left unfulfilled:
The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)
Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4)
The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17)
Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)
Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)
He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)
All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)
Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)
There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)
All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)
The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)
Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5)
The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)
The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)
Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)
The Temple will be rebuilt resuming many of the suspended mitzvot (Ezekiel 40)
He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)
Jews will know the Torah without study (Jeremiah 31:33)[3]
He will give you all the worthy desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4)
Why haven’t these things happened? And come on, Jesus was the first person to ever speak of such a thing. He made that up. There are clear guidlines establishing the Messianic Age.
No, please explain how hunger and illness have ceased already!! Please tell me how evil and tyranny don’t stand anymore. Please explain how the weapons of war have been destroyed. Please explain what happened to my worthy desires!!!
You are correct. The Jewish messianic prophecies have not been fulfilled by either Jesus, nor anyone else. Back then, many young Jewish men claimed to be the messiah; some of them were far better qualified than Jesus, in that they DID fulfill a few of the prophecies. None were accepted, though, because the Jewish maschiach *must* fulfill them ALL before dying – no ‘second coming’.
I am baffled as to the list of ‘prophecies’ that some Christians present here. Where on earth do they come from? Certainly, they are not taken from the Tanakh, the Jewish bible.
As for the Christian argument that Jesus ‘will’ fulfill the prophecies upon his ‘return’ – it’s clear to many of us that this ‘second coming’ is merely a device to explain HOW Jesus could die WITHOUT fulfilling the Jewish prophecies.
Christians are often asking why Jews don’t accept Jesus as messiah – well, here we have one of the reasons. Christians have to appreciate that THEIR prophecies are not OUR prophecies. Our messiah must fulfill OUR prophecies – full stop.

Soteriology – Q 5 – How does Christ execute the office of a priest?

I took a soteriology class in college. In the old testament, people brought their sacrafices to the priest, and the PRIEST offered the sacrafices for the people. The priest was the one that was able to ask for the Lords forgiveness. He was a mediator for the people. The people did not go directly to God. Now that Christ has died for our sins, He is our High Priest. Instead of offering sacrafices, we now go to Him and pray to Him and He lets our requests be made know unto the father. Leviticus is a good book to read in the old testament, it is full of the recquironments and the duties of a priest.. In the new testament I would read Acts, this will show how Jesus now fulfills this role. Good luck with your paper!
